Novel virus found affecting the intestinal tract of horses

Dr. Haywood published a first author paper from our lab on finding a new enteric virus in horses! This virus appears to play a role in farm outbreaks, particularly where horses are being diagnosed with enterocolitis with small colon impactions. NCSU Equine Medicine team awarded a grant to study antibiotic duration in equine pneumonia

The Sheahan Lab has a new collaboration with UC Davis: Vitamin E absorption in the intestine

Dr. Finno, a well-known researcher in equine neuromuscular disease, and Dr. Sheahan have a funded grant to study how Vitamin E is absorbed in the intestines of horses. This study is funded by the American Quarter Horse Foundation. We are so excited to be doing this important research!

New paper published! Equine neutrophils selectively release neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) in response to chemical and bacterial agonists.

Dr. Sheahan published a study examining the unique responses of equine neutrophils to different stimuli. Equine neutrophils, just like horses, are very special and react differently than neutrophils from other species!
